GIS Technician (Geographic Information System) HCTRA

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Houston roadways are very busy, and Harris County Toll Road is seeking a GIS Technician to assist them at their Wilshire location. GIS Technician's Responsibilities:

Compiling geographic information in the form of satellite images, geographical surveys, and aerial photographs.
Researching and verifying geographic data.
Entering new data into the GIS database.
Drawing maps using advanced computer software
Develops and maintains geographic data for transportation planning and civil engineering design using various ESRI technologies.
Assessing Visual Information-Compile information in the form of aerial photos, geological surveys, and satellite images from a range of different sources, forming the basis of reports and articles.
Performing Data Research-Carrying out data research and verification activities to ensure the information collected is accurate. Document new sources of GIS data and quality concerns they may have.
Drawing Maps-Draw maps using automated drafting software, ensuring that sources are annotated, and all information is accurate.
Transforming Data into Databases-Turn diverse data from different sources into standardized computer formats for use in databases and maps. Incorporate charts, maps, and data files into reports as well.
Troubleshooting GIS Database Issues-Using a variety of diagnostic tools, resolving GIS database problems that arise, and providing technical support to end users by helping them implement tools.

GIS Tech's Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Able to create maps and exhibits using ArcMap. Maps and data will address issues such as environmental management, land ownership, and titles, roadway planning, utilities, and asset management.
Able to generate detailed and accurate GIS data or maps in a short time.
Proficient in using large format printers.
Proficient with the following software programs: Windows, Outlook, Visio, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, SharePoint, ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcPro, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Online, and Portal.
Basic understanding of civil engineering regarding transportation.
Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
Basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
Solid communication, organizational skills, and detail-oriented.
Must get along with co-workers and provide a positive working atmosphere.
Excellent time management.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and able to handle high-pressure situations at times.
